Have you ever wondered what to cook in summer?

Typically, our Queensland summer is hot and therefore we want recipes that are easy to prepare and that are suitable for alfresco dining.

Colourful meals centred around seasonal, fresh fruit and vegetables are ideal for summer. Cold dishes or ingredients that need minimal cooking are often the easiest to make during this time.

Outdoor eating

I love summer here in Australia because of the warm weather. For me, eating as many of my meals outdoors is a real treat and I try to do it as much as possible during the hotter months.

Barbecues, picnics and alfresco dinners are all lovely ways to eat your meals during summer.

Even just the simple act of eating your breakfast outside on your balcony can be a wonderful way to start your day.

Sharing meals with friends and family can often occur more over summer because of Christmas and other party celebrations. So grazing platters, buffets and other shareable food are ideal for this time of year as well.

Try to buy fresh fruit and vegetables that are in season and use them as the main element of your recipe.

You could make the following types of savoury dishes and use summer vegetables as your core ingredient:
